We're looking for a Superintendent to join our client's dynamic Builders team in Chicago! As a full-service construction company, we specialize in hospitality, retail, core and shell, residential, and multi-family projects.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Construction, the Superintendent leads the job site, ensuring smooth project progress. This role requires attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication with stakeholders. The ideal candidate thrives in collaboration, accountability, and overseeing projects from pre-construction to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the entire construction process to ensure the project adheres to design, budget, and schedule.
- Serve as the main point of contact for all onsite details, including quality assurance, safety, and subcontractor oversight.
- Continuously seek ways to improve internal systems, job site productivity, and safety processes.
- Manage the project schedule using Procore and Microsoft Project, ensuring all trades are aligned with the project timeline.
- Ensure project estimates are accurate and complete; participate in meetings to review the scope of work, discuss cost-reduction strategies, and provide value engineering ideas.
- Identify potential bottlenecks and gaps, proactively resolving issues while meeting deadlines and mitigating delays, liabilities, or risks.
- Maintain strong subcontractor relationships through consistent communication, scheduling management, change orders, and RFIs.
- Foster a positive and productive relationship with clients by managing expectations and addressing concerns with a solution-oriented approach.
Qualifications for Success:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a construction site superintendent or in a similar role.
- Strong technical and communication skills across stakeholders, including proficiency with email and document organization. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required; experience with Microsoft Project & Procore is highly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as architectural drawings, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Skilled in prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently, with experience in identifying long lead times and critical path items. Knowledge of lean construction principles and pull planning is preferred.
