The Firm:
We are partnering with a respected and forward-thinking architecture practice that is seeking a Principal/Studio Director to lead and grow its Multifamily AND/OR Mixed-Use practice in Los Angeles. With a strong presence across the region, this firm is committed to design excellence and long-term impact, and is looking for a leader to help drive both creative and commercial success.

The Role:
As Studio Director, you will have full responsibility for the studio's strategic direction, financial health, and design quality. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for someone with strong business development skills, a proven background in multifamily and mixed-use projects, and the vision to build a thriving studio.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the studio's operations, culture, and strategic direction in alignment with firm-wide goals.

  • Oversee the design, planning, and delivery of high-quality multifamily/mixed-use projects.

  • Mentor and grow a high-performing team, providing leadership, feedback, and development opportunities.

  • Drive business development efforts-building relationships, winning work, and expanding market presence.

  • Manage client relationships and serve as a key point of contact on major projects.

  • Ensure strong financial performance including work plans, staffing, billing, and collections.

  • Oversee contract negotiations, consultant coordination, and project risk management.

  • Represent the firm at industry events and conferences to increase visibility and influence.


Requirements:

  • 15+ years of professional experience in architecture, with a focus on multifamily or mixed-use projects.

  • Proven leadership experience in a studio or firm-wide role, including team management.

  • Strong track record in business development and client relationship management.

  • Deep understanding of project financials, contracts, and operational strategy.

  • Excellent communication and strategic planning skills.

  • Willingness to travel as needed for projects, meetings, and industry events.
