Job Title: Project Manager Battery Storage (BESS)

About the Role:
Our client, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, is on the lookout for a talented and experienced Battery Storage Project Manager. This role will oversee the delivery of multiple energy storage projects across the UK, offering the right candidate a chance to contribute to innovative projects in the rapidly evolving energy landscape.

The ideal candidate will possess solid experience in developing and constructing renewable energy or battery storage projects, with a background that includes working from both the owner and contractor perspectives, as well as considerable on-site involvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all projects comply with grid connections, land lease agreements, and planning requirements, while managing relationships with key stakeholders such as the National Grid.
  • Lead the construction process for energy storage projects, whether delivered through an EPC contractor or a two-contract strategy.
  • Manage contract obligations throughout the project, ensuring high standards of document control, design checks, quality assurance, health and safety oversight, and detailed reporting (including meeting minutes).
  • Take responsibility for contract execution and performance monitoring during all project phases.

Additional Responsibilities for the Right Candidate:

  • Oversee due diligence on projects handed over by the development team, contributing to technical planning decisions.
  • Support the growth of the business by helping define asset management strategies, exploring opportunities for solar/storage hybrid projects, and identifying new business cases.
  • Participate in procurement and tender processes, including supplier selection, contract documentation, and negotiating terms.
  • Assist with securing project financing by managing due diligence and providing technical input to financial models.
  • Lead the development of new solar assets, from pre-planning through to consent.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A degree in Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) is highly desirable.
  • Strong track record in project management, particularly within a renewable energy developer, contractor, or consultancy environment.
  • Experience with both development and construction phases of energy projects is crucial.
  • The ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Prior experience with battery energy storage systems is beneficial but not mandatory.
