Position Summary
Our client are the North American market leader in engineering and testing services for the energy & grid industries. Join this dynamic team as a Lead Electrical Test Engineer and play a pivotal role in leading cutting-edge testing programs in their state of the art High Voltage Laboratory. Under the guidance of the Lab Director, you will oversee high voltage testing activities, mentor a team of engineers, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- High Voltage Testing: Oversee the planning, execution, and analysis of high voltage tests on electrical equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, insulators). Address and resolve technical issues during testing. Develop and implement test procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Laboratory Management: Oversee the high voltage laboratory's equipment calibration, maintenance, and upgrades. Recommend equipment investments to expand testing capabilities and ensure safety compliance.
- Technical Expertise: Possess a strong understanding of high voltage testing techniques and methodologies, ensuring all testing adheres to relevant industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC, UL) and customer specifications. Stay current with advancements in high voltage testing practices to continuously refine and improve protocols. Provide technical guidance to engineering teams and clients, supporting best practices and industry compliance throughout the testing process.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed test reports with data analysis, conclusions, and recommendations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of procedures and results
- Leadership: Mentor a small team of high voltage test engineers, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and providing guidance for accurate and timely test completion. Foster a culture of innovation, safety, and continuous learning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in testing and validation of utility-scale electrical/mechanical equipment, with extensive knowledge of AC/DC power circuits, component selection, and calculations.
- Extensive experience in high voltage testing, including power frequency, impulse, partial discharge, and withstand voltage tests.
- Strong understanding of power generation, transmission, and distribution principles, as well as current and voltage measurement techniques.
- Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, IEC, UL, and other relevant standards for electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Proven customer relationship management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
