Position Overview:
The Estimator plays a key role in preparing bids and estimates, ensuring accurate cost projections, and outlining subcontractor scope. You'll work closely with project, marketing, and preconstruction teams to support our company's objectives. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a qualified database of subcontractors, assisting in securing profitable projects, and contributing to the company's competitiveness in the bidding process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare time, cost, and labor estimates by analyzing project drawings, specifications, and RFPs (Request for Proposals).
- Develop conceptual estimates and budgets for upcoming projects.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs and prepare scope sheets for purchasing.
- Maintain a bid log and prepare detailed subcontractor scope of work, including extensive bid administration and follow-up.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors for bid solicitation.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
- Participate in the interview process for some project awards.
- Maintain a qualified list of subcontractors.
- Minimize job costs through effective communication with subcontractors and vendors.
- Identify potential project risks and assist in mitigating them.
- Collaborate with the marketing and preconstruction teams to review RFPs, bid documents, and compare company costs with estimated project costs.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA in Engineering or Construction Management preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience estimating and managing commercial construction projects.
- Strong understanding of architecture, engineering, and construction processes.
- Excellent ability to analyze project drawings, specifications, and RFPs.
- Proven experience managing multiple tasks in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Skills:
- High proficiency in On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office software (e.g., PowerPoint, Word, Project, Excel).
- Experience conducting turnover meetings and close-out reviews, including cost analysis.
- Strong knowledge of Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical systems is preferred, but not required.
