In this podcast episode, we’re joined by Gidi Zelichover – Head of Territory Support and AG Capacity Building at Netafim. With over a decade working at Netafim, a successful career within agriculture and a lifetime emersed within the farming industry, Gidi has a wealth of insights and experiences to share.
We look back on Gidi’s career journey, his exposure to farming and the agriculture community touching on the significant changes and trends he has seen in relation to new technology and developments throughout his career.
While many elements of the industry are within control, there are still many challenges and barriers across the industry which businesses, farmers and agronomists face that are beyond control such as climate impact. Gidi shares thoughts on this amongst other challenges faced in the industry currently.
Talent shortages and skills gaps are prevalent in agriculture and we touch on transferable skills and skills first hiring to access wider talent pools as an approach to combat talent shortages.
Looking forward to the next decade, Gidi shares his insights on what innovation and advances will have the largest impact on the agriculture industry – “The digitalization, automation, and also the data revolution. The fact that the knowledge is well accessible is something that we need to get used to in a way that okay maybe it gives farmers understanding and they knowing more than they used to know where there is quite a lot of false information as well and this is will be a change that in a way in terms of the data revolution. We need to know how to use it smartly. We need to know how to control it. And this is where I see also the data will support automation and will support precision farming. And it's all about the data.”

He also shares experiences in the importance of human connection in a digitally connected world to get the most out of sharing ideas and true collaboration.
